Oregon Sea Grant/Oregon State University Extension is offering a “Guide and Outfitters Recognized Professional” (GORP) recognition and training program for guides and outfitters: http://gorpguide.org
Although developed in Oregon, the training program may be used by every state in the U.S.
The GORP program provides knowledge and skills training through a blend of short online courses, webinars, and custom scheduled in-person workshops. The program content includes group management, customer service, sustainability, marketing, key organizations, personal interpretation skills, ecology, risk management, and more. It prepares participants to meet the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) International Adventure Travel Guide Qualifications and Performance Standard. ATTA is a private industry organization for guides and tour operators.
