      Mission: The Western Rural Development Center collaborates with western land-grant universities and public and private sector partners to promote excellence in research, education, and Extension for the prosperity of western rural communities.

    • Kristin Dahl – Vice President, Destination Development at Travel Oregon

       

      Kristin Dahl leads the Destination Development team at Travel Oregon, which fosters sustainable tourism development in Oregon. Kristin directs the Oregon Tourism Studio program and oversees the state’s outdoor recreation, agritourism and transportation development initiatives as well as destination management programming.

       

      Originally from Juneau, Alaska, Kristin started her career in tourism as a glacier guide atop the Mendenhall Glacier, an experience that opened her eyes to the need for balancing economic growth with stewardship of people and place. As a whitewater guide and expedition leader, Kristin has worked in Oregon, Utah, Mexico, Costa Rica, Laos and Cambodia. With a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning, she has spent the past fourteen years leading community-based economic development initiatives in the Pacific Northwest. She currently makes her home in Hood River with her husband, Jake, five-year old daughter, Piper Mae, one-year old son, Booker, and Cash the dog.   

    • Angie Briggs Vice President, Industry Relations – US Travel
    • Angie Briggs is vice president of industry relations for the U.S. Travel Association. She is focused on engagement and growth across all member levels of the association. Briggs is a frequent traveler, spending time in-market collaborating with U.S. Travel’s national membership.  

      Briggs has spent most of her career in the travel and tourism industry. Prior to joining U.S. Travel, Angie served as vice president, new business development at Miles Partnership. As a member of the leadership team, Briggs helped drive the agency’s strategy and growth. She established a strong track record of collaboration and identifying business opportunities to support national, state, regional and local destination marketing organizations, as well as hotels, airports, attractions and businesses in the international marketplace.

      Previously, Briggs was vice president, business development of marketing agency TIG Global. During her time at TIG Global, Briggs launched a new destination marketing organization (DMO) division at the agency, and was responsible for building brand awareness, leading the product development process, developing business plans and training staff members for DMO-specific accounts.

      Briggs received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from North Carolina State University.

  • MARITIME MUSEUM TOUR & MOVIE

Columbia River Maritime Museum  Discover the stories of the legendary Columbia River Bar, one of the most dangerous passages in the world.

  • FORT CLATSOP TO SEA HIKE w/ Interpretive Tour at Fort Clatsop

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park  Fort Clatsop was the winter encampment for the Corps of Discovery from December 1805 to March 1806. The visitor center includes a replica of Fort Clatsop similar to the one built by the explorers, an interpretive center offering an exhibit hall, bookstore, and two films. Interpretive tour begins at 9:15, or self-tour. 

COST = $7  pay on site       

Meet and park at Fort Clatsop. Hike from the Fort out to Sunset Beach Recreation Area, approx 6 miles. Extension will shuttle you from Sunset Parking Lot back to Fort Clatsop, at 9am and 10:30 am.

  • CANON BEACH / HAYSTACK ROCK TOUR & LUNCH

Friends of Haystack Rock  Located at Cannon Beach on the North coast of Oregon, Haystack Rock is a unique monolith that attracts wildlife and tourists alike. The Rock is home to nesting seabirds in the summer and marine invertebrates all year. Tidepool seekers are beckoned by its wonders every day.

Public Coast Brewing Company In 1967, Oregon saw fit to boldly declare our beaches free and open to all.Today, we’re celebrating this landmark legislation anew – with beer. Lots of honest, great tasting beer… where forest meets sea and grey whales frolic….and shoes are just a suggestion.

Zipline Tours on the Oregon Coast  Some of the best ziplining in Oregon, with a guided tour of eight zip lines! Showcasing the best of the Oregon Coast, our zipline tours soar over a beautiful natural landscape, complete with seasoned timber, ponds, and a seven-acre lake. Our highly-trained guides will watch and assist.

Join Bob and your peers on a historic walking tour of Astoria during lunch time at this year’s conference.  Cost is $10 (payable to Bob at time of tour) and lunch is on your own. 

Bob will start the tour from the hotel at noon, take participants on a route through Astoria explaining the history of downtown.  Bob will give participants 3 restaurant options along the way.  Once all finish their meal, Bob will continue the group tour back to the Holiday Inn Express, arriving at 2:20pm
